Bernice T. McDermid, 96, of Seymour and formerly of Pulaski, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Seymour. The daughter of Wojcieck “George” Bjorek and Anna Czarnik was born on January 23, 1930.
Bernice grew up in the Pulaski area and was a graduate of Pulaski High School. She married James “Bud” McDermid at St. Casimir Church in Krakow in 1950. He preceded her in death on November 10, 1991.
Bernice worked at Northern Shoe in Pulaski for many years. After the company closed, she worked as a meat trimmer for Provimi Foods for a number of years until her retirement. Faith was always at the center of Bernice’s life. She was a member of St. Casimir Church, Assumption B.V.M. Church in Pulaski, and, for many years, Ss. Edward & Isidore Church in Flintville.
In her younger years, Bernice enjoyed bowling and gardening. During her time at the nursing home, she enjoyed keeping busy with artwork, playing bingo, and visiting with fellow residents.
Survivors include her children: Pam (Randy) Lawniczak, Bruce (Linda) McDermid, Gary McDermid, Dale (Karen) McDermid, and Steve (Connie) McDermid; her grandchildren: John LaCount (Gina), Arnie Schuh (Darla), Chris (Christie) Schuh, Stacey (Eric) Rasmussen, Matt (Jenny) Schuh, Jessica (Jeff) Palmer, Michael McDermid, Karrie (Steve) Bierhals, Bobbi Jo (Tony) Douglas, Courtney (Chris) Brennan, and Ryan McDermid (fiancé, Caitlin); 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Roger Schuh, and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Elise Schuh; grandchildren: Shannon, Sara, Thomas Jr., Gary, and Laura Lynn; 12 brothers and sisters; 11 brother-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Friends are invited to gather with family at Ss. Edward & Isidore Church, 3667 Flintville Rd. (Flintville) Suamico, on Friday, September 18, from 9-11 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Fr. Scott Valentyn presiding. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Green Bay.
Bernice’s family would like to thank all the nurses at Good Shepherd Nursing Home and to the Moments Hospice Team, you all are saints.
