Frank J Berna Jr., 91, Pulaski, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Seymour. The son of Frank, Sr. and Mary (Yurek) Berna was born September 23, 1933, in Pulaski and was a 1952 graduate of Pulaski High School.
Frank was one of 11 brothers and sisters. He worked at Liebmanns as a meat cutter, joined the U.S. Army in July of 1954, and served until his honorable discharge in 1956. Frank was involved in the American Legion, Polish Legion of American Veterans, and the Knights of Columbus.
On Oct 27, 1956, Frank married Marlene Dietz at St Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville. The couple farmed for about a year. They started a construction business in 1962, which they operated until 1999. Construction was their passion. Marlene preceded him in death on March 17, 2024.
Frank enjoyed hunting, fishing, gathering corn for the Pulaski produce wagon, tinkering with tool repairs in his shop, and picking berries.
Survivors include one son, John (Patricia) Berna; five grandchildren: Janelle (Nick) Worman, Mark (Casi) Berna, Jenae Berna, Marie Berna, Michael Berna; one great-grandchild, Milly Berna; brothers and sisters: Rose Jaworski, Mary Ann Szczepanski, Jeanette (Tom) Scott, Delores (Larry) Jeanis, Dan (Theresa) Berna, Norb (Barb) Berna, Betty Krueger, and sisters-in-law: Donna Berna and Regina Berna.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Marlene, he was preceded in death by a son, Jim Berna, and daughter-in-law, Joann Berna; brothers: Ed Berna, Richard (Dee) Berna, Tony Berna Sr., John Yurek, brothers-in-laws: John Jaworski, Emil Szczepanski, and Jim Krueger.
Visitation will take place at Assumption B.V.M. Church, 119 E. Pulaski St., Pulaski on Friday, December 13, from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. James Esser, O.F.M. presiding. Military honors rendered by the Pulaski Area Veterans will follow at the church following Mass. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery at a later time.
