Obituary

Irving "Butch" Surprise, 81, Town of Chase died Sunday, July 26, 2026, at his home. The son of Irving and Margaret Surprise was born on October 22, 1944.

On December 23, 1966, Butch married Margaret Draheim at Baptist Community Church in Hortonville. In 1968, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he proudly served until receiving an honorable discharge in 1970.

Butch worked at Fox Tractor in Appleton and Russell Metals in Green Bay, while also working on the farm in the Town of Chase. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his ATV around the farm. A devoted Green Bay Packers fan, Butch rarely missed cheering on his favorite team.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; five children: Robyn Surprise, Shannon Surprise, Jessica (Stafford) Robinson, Cassie (Barry) Hanke, and Kevin Surprise; his grandchildren: Brittney (Josh) Dequaine, Dakota Peotter, Jennifer (Casey) Messenger, Tiffany Robinson (Josh Gilligan), Jon (Kassie) McNulty, Courtney McNulty (Michael Huerta), and Austin McNulty; great grandchildren: Franklin, Anthony, Tucker, Hunter, Tanner, Brantley, Braxton, and Asher; sisters-in-law, Barb Winberger and Gladys Draheim; and several nieces, nephews, and other family members.

In addition to his parents, Irving and Margaret, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Arnold and Lucille Draheim; siblings: Christine Welch, Florence Clemons, Margaret Vandenbloomer, and Alice Hasley; and a brother-in-law, Marvin Draheim.

Friends are invited to gather with family at Marnocha Funeral Home, 186 E. Pulaski St., Pulaski, on Friday, July 31, from 2-5 p.m. Military honors rendered by the Vietnam Veterans of America will take place at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.

Butch's family would like to thank all the first responders including: N.E.W. Rescue and the Oconto County Sheriff's Department.
