Josephine
Thorsen
Mar 14, 1928 — Oct 15, 2023
Josephine E. Thorsen (Esposito), 95, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 16, 2023. She was born on March 14, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late John and Angelina Esposito.
On September 11, 1949, Josephine married the love of her life and her all-time best buddy, Edward Thorsen. They celebrated 69 years of marriage before his passing in 2018.
Josephine was a wonderful, caring woman whose life revolved around her family and her God. Ed and Josephine had one daughter, Sue May, who she never tired of spoiling. When Sue went to college, Josephine decided to also go to college and achieved a Master of Divinity Degree from Lutheran School of Theology. She spent several years as a hospital chaplain and loved helping those in need of spiritual guidance. Twenty years ago, Sue convinced her parents to move to Green Bay to be closer to family and they made all new friends in "Packers Country". Josephine became "Grandma Jo" to so many people. She was loved by everyone, from her friends at the Broadview YMCA, the front desk people at Bellin, her special service advisor at LeMieux, her favorite butcher at Pick N Save, Kathy, Sabrina and the front desk crew at the Day Spa, to the ladies she lunched with monthly. They will all miss her!
Her religious faith was always important to her. She read devotions and the Bible daily and always said she was in God's hands. Equally important was her family. She loved them unconditionally and prayed for them always. Her daughter was her world once Ed passed away and she called her son-in-law, Scott, her "buddy" (took Ed's place for reaching things that were too high for her). The joy of her life was seeing her grandsons, Jeff and Andy, and their families. She loved having the great grandsons measure how tall they were next to her.
Josephine is survived by her daughter, Susan (Scott) May; grandsons: Jeffrey (Nicole) Ruediger and their sons, Brooks and Miles; and Andrew (Lisa) Ruediger and their sons, Aiden, Evan, and Owen; "special" granddaughter, Erica (Luke) Fenton and her son Ryan (Rachel) Svejda. Also surviving are brother-in-law, Tony Tumminaro and sisters-in-law: Corrine Esposito, June Feireisel, and Barb Thorsen; nieces and nephews and many friends.
In addition to her husband, Edward, Josephine was preceded in death by her sisters: Phyllis Tumminaro and Mary Esposito; brothers: Charles Esposito, Sam (Phyllis) Esposito, and John (Peggy) Esposito; brothers-in-law: Bill Thorsen, Art Thorsen, Ray (Jeanne) Thorsen, Ron Feiereisel, and a sister-in-law, Fern (Roy) Meissner.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 19, at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1301 S. Ridge Rd., Green Bay, with the Service following at 11:00. Interment will take place in Mount Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, Illinois.
Her family would like to thank Bellin Hospital and Unity Hospice for their care and concern in Josephine's last days.
