Smith
Nov 26, 1936 — Apr 23, 2024
Leon M. Smith, 87, Hofa Park, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay. The son of Michael and Irene (Rozmiarek) Smith was born at home on November 26, 1936.
A 1954 graduate of Pulaski High School, Leon grew up in the Town of Maple Grove. On August 23, 1958, he married Rita Holewinski at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Hofa Park. He loved his church and the people who were part of it.
Leon was proud to be a farmer and loved to talk about farming with everyone. He was a steward of the land and was extremely proud of his garden.
Leon loved listening to and playing polka music. He played the accordion in the Alvin Styczynski Polka Band for 14 years and then formed his own band, Leon Smith and the Playboys. Leon was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and especially liked Brett Favre. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons and great-grandsons.
Survivors include his daughter, Renee (Terry) Fleming, Hofa Park; two grandsons: Dylan (Courtney) Fleming, Appleton, and Michael (Marissa) Fleming, New Richmond; two great-grandsons, Brayden and Grayson; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Rose Marie Mastey, Donald Holewinski, Diane (Robert) Paulick, Ken (Diane) Holewinski, and Gary (Connie) Holewinski; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his wife, Rita and his parents, Michael and Irene, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Smith; a brother-in-law, Leonard Mastey; and a sister-in-law, Carol Holewinski.
Friends are invited to gather with family at St. Stanislaus Church, W1888 Hofa Park Rd., Seymour, on Friday, April 26, from 9-11 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Fr. James Esser, O.F.M. presiding. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
The family respectfully asks that no flowers be sent. They would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at St. Vincent Hospital.
