Obituary

Leonard James Mastey, 92, of Pulaski passed away at St. Vincent Hospital on Thursday, January 12, 2023. He was born on July 7, 1930, son of Stanley and Agnes (Szymanski) Mastey and was one of 13 children. He was a graduate of Pulaski High School. Leonard met the love of his life at a dance in Krakow and married Rose Marie Holewinski on July 24, 1954. The couple had 68 wonderful years together. He is a lifelong member of the Assumption BVM Parish in Pulaski, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus, Bishop Bona Council #4439. Leonard was a dairy farmer his entire life and his farm was a gathering place for many family memories. He continued to be active on the farm by feeding cattle and driving tractor for his son, Mike, after his retirement. Leonard also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his step grandchildren.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Rose Marie and their six children: Ruth (Gordy) Clark and their children, Aaron Clark(Angela Surprise), Ben (Katie) Clark, and Justin (Liz) Clark, Debra (James) Ullmer and their children, Nathan (Renee) Ullmer, Jessica (Adam) Gwidt, Stacy (Sam) Thomas, and Andrea (Josh) Ragen, Mary Lou (Dennis) Schroeder and their children, Kim (Brent) Gruetzmacher, Eric (Teralyn)Schroeder, and Alissa (Jerry) Schuchardt, Paula Wojcik (Craig Salscheider) and her children, Brittany (Josh) Hanstedt, Breanna (Tony) Engebos, and Tanner (Steph) Wojcik, Michael (Peg) Mastey and their children, Ashley (Gary) Karcz and Becca Mastey (Paul Allen), Anne (Rob) Egnarski and their children, Bryce Egnarski (Kendra Schultz), McKenna (Brock) Moldenhauer, and Cayden Egnarski (Chelsey Gilson). He is further survived by 23 great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, one step great great grandchild and one step great great grandchild due in March. Leonard is also survived by one sister, Geraldine Kuklinski and one brother, Eugene Mastey, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: John, Florian, Norbert, and Alvin and sisters: Verna Strupp, Evelyn Lubinski, Lorraine Luebke, Rita Immel, Florence Rawlsky, and Isabelle Mastey.

Friends are invited to gather with family at Assumption B.V.M. Church, 119 E. Pulaski St., Pulaski, on Saturday, January 21, from 9-11 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Fr. James Esser, O.F.M. presiding. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
