Obituary

Madeline C. Smith, 82, of Pulaski, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Seymour. The daughter of Athly and Edna (Hutchinson) Kahl was born on July 9, 1943.

Madeline was a graduate of Kiel High School. On August 22, 1970, she married Riley Smith in Iron River, MI. Together, they owned and operated Bruzzes Up North in Tipler for many years. When Riley's health began to decline, Madeline devoted herself to caring for him. She later worked as a supervisor at the Potawatomi C-Store, where she remained until her retirement.

Madeline was deeply involved in a local Bible study group, whose members became her extended family. Affectionately known as the "Sisters in Christ," they shared a special bond that brought her great joy and support. In her leisure time, Madeline enjoyed watching sports on television, reading, and especially studying the Bible.

Madeline is survived by a daughter, Tara (Grant) Wojta; grandchildren: Carli (Dustin) Marks, Jena Gorr, and Alex Wojta; great-grandchildren: Blake Gorr and Cora Marks; a brother, Leonard (Patty) Kahl; and a sister, Sheila (Ken) Roepcke.

In addition to her husband Riley (March 15, 2009) and parents, Athly and Edna, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tonya Gorr; three brothers: William Kahl, Athly Kahl, and John Kahl; five sisters: Gloria Holders, Anita Austinson, Sonja Stephanie, Georgianna Modtland, and Madge Henchel.

Friends are invited to gather with family at Marnocha Funeral Home, 186 E. Pulaski St., Pulaski, on Thursday, June 11, from 10-11 a.m. The Funeral Service will take place at 11 a.m. with Chaplain Mike Williams officiating. Interment will take place in Martin Cemetery, Tipler, on Friday, at 11 a.m.
