Obituary

Martha Lucy Baranowski, 97, died peacefully at home on Sunday morning, February 23, 2025. She was born in the town of Maple Grove on February 19,1928, to Joseph and Agnes (Szmith) Karchinski and graduated from Pulaski High School in 1947.

On May 1, 1948, Martha married the love of her life, Anthony "Tony" Baranowski, at Assumption BVM Church in Pulaski. The couple celebrated 40 years of marriage, raising their four children. Tony preceded her in death on July 28, 1988.

In her younger years, she and Tony enjoyed dancing the polka at weddings and dances. Martha became an avid follower of the Packers, Brewers, and the Badgers basketball team. One of her greatest pleasures was playing cards and Yahtzee with family and friends. She loved the conversation and food that went with those gatherings. Her home was always a warm and inviting place.

She was a devout member of Assumption BVM Parish all her life and was a member of the Council of Catholic Women. Martha happily volunteered at many church events.

Martha was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She took great joy in the family gatherings and spontaneous visits with family and friends. She will be missed so much by her entire family. Her warm smile and quick humor will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her four children: Audrey (Richard) Johnson, Gail (Bradley) Witthuhn, Shirley (James) Maenner, and Gary (Becky) Baranowski.  She is further survived by her 14 grandchildren: Susan and Stacy Johnson, Joseph (Katie) Witthuhn, Eric (Courtney) Witthuhn, and Julie (Matthew) Flanagan; Matthew Maenner, Kristin (Spencer) Galbavy, and Lisa (Ryan) Duebner, Ryan (Jessica) Baranowski, Jasen (Lindsey) Baranowski and Trina Baranowski, and Drew, Hans, and Bram Koenig.  Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren: Bellamy, Etta and Ford Witthuhn; Nolan, Camden, and Hattie Flanagan; James Maenner; and Ivy Baranowski. She is further survived by a very special cousin and friend, Marlene Smith.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband Tony; her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in- law: John and Helen Baranowski; an infant sister Cecelia Karchinski; her brothers and sisters-in-law: Chester (Minnie) Karchinski, Rapheal (Sarah) Karchinski, and Felix (Dorothy) Karchinski; and a step-brother: Raymond (Lucille) Karchinski.
