Martin “Marty”
Augustine
Dec 27, 1947 — Jul 17, 2024
Martin "Marty" Augustine, 76, passed away peacefully while holding hands with his wife and children.
Born in Chicago, IL, on December 27, 1947, Marty was the son of Martin and Irma (Madden) Augustine. They later moved to the Augustine family farm in Sheldon, WI. After his parents divorced, Marty and his mother relocated to Milwaukee to live with his grandparents. His mother subsequently married Oswald Lietzau.
Marty attended Granville High School, where he excelled in sports and formed lifelong friendships. He attended the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, where he briefly played football, was a member of the Highlanders Ski Club, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in education.
On July 10, 1971, Marty married his high school sweetheart, Linda (Maszk). He began his career teaching Physical Education and History at St. James School in Mequon, WI. He later transitioned to a successful career as a salesman for The Battery Shop (Enersys), continuing with the company through various ownership changes until his retirement after 39 years. His outstanding performance earned him numerous recognitions, including trips to the Bahamas and Europe. Many of his customers became friends.
Marty's greatest joy in life was being a dad to Shani and Scott. He was a dedicated father who attended all of their football, hockey, and dance activities. He taught them all of the important things both directly and by example. His influence carried over to his role as an awesome grandpa. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren on four-wheeler rides and teaching them to fish.
Marty loved deer hunting with his cousin Doug in the Sheldon area, where they created many fond memories. He often told stories about Ruby Swamp and the local taverns. He earned a scuba diving certificate and had the opportunity to drive a race car at Elkhart Lake Raceway. He was an avid fan of Badger Football and a proud Green Bay Packers shareholder as well as season ticket holder. He enjoyed golfing and tinkering in his garage. Though he always denied wanting a dog, Marty was often seen going for a ride with a canine companion hanging its head out the window.
Survivors include his loving wife Linda, his daughter Shani Augustine (husband Patrick Smith) and their children Hannah and Tyson, Oregon; his son Scott (Jenny) Augustine and their children Martin Henry, Ethan, Clara, and Emelia, Krakow, WI. He is further survived by his sisters Darlene Ennis and Sheryl Siefert; sisters-in-law Susan Maszk, Judy Maszk, Beverly Maszk, Heidi (Mike) Conte and many cousins, nieces, nephews.
Preceded in death were his parents Martin Augustine Jr., Irma and Oswald Lietzau; brothers John and Gary Lietzau; brothers-in-law Ron Siefert, Michael Maszk, Jeffrey Maszk; mother-in-law Elizabeth Maszk and sister-in-law Cathleen Pendelton.
Special thanks to his doctor, Christina Fergus, for her years of care and concern.
Marty will be laid to rest near his father at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sheldon, Wisconsin on Saturday, July 27th, at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Marty and Linda often reflected on their 53 years together, sitting on the dock at their home in Krakow, and would say they had done a good job and had a good life together.
"Did I tell you I loved you today?"
