Martin “Marty”
Hancock
Mar 4, 1948 — Feb 8, 2025
Martin "Marty" J. Hancock, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Jack & Engrid Meng Residence in De Pere. The son of Leonard and Barbara (Kelly) Hancock was born March 4, 1948, in Blair, Nebraska.
Marty's childhood allowed him to move from NE, to AK, then MN and onto his high school years in Oshkosh. He graduated from Oshkosh West High School with the Class of 1966. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for four years, mostly in Europe, until his honorable discharge in 1970.
Upon his return from the service Marty attended the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, earning a bachelor's degree in education and eventually obtaining a master's degree in educational leadership. On June 24, 1978, Marty married Susan Jarvis at Mt. Morris Holden Lutheran Church in Wautoma.
In 1976, Marty moved to the Pulaski area and began his teaching career at Glenbrook Elementary School. During this time, he was a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 1031, as he was an Eagle Scout himself. Later, he transferred to Sunnyside Elementary School, then finished his teaching career for several years at the Pulaski Community Middle School, retiring in 2006. Over the years, he coached basketball and track and also served as the Athletic Director for the middle school.
Marty was very active within his church, Peace Lutheran; he was part of the Peaceful Harmony Church Choir, Men's Group, Bible Study, and an ELCA Lay School Graduate. He was very dedicated to the once-a-month meals at St. John's Homeless Shelter where he made pans of Jello and was known as the "Jello Man."
Marty enjoyed watching the Packers, golfing, ice fishing, taking fishing trips to Canada in the summers, and for many years, downhill skiing. He and his wife, Sue, traveled to Hawaii, Germany, Ireland, and other places within the US, but his favorite traveling was to see his grandchildren in St. Paul, McFarland, and Whitefish Bay. Marty loved to meet and talk with people wherever he went!
Survivors include his loving wife of over 46 years, Sue; three children: Katy (Chad) West, Lucas (April) Hancock; and Annie (Josh) Turim; six grandchildren: Nina, Ty, Bennett, Brecken, Ellie, and Ari; siblings: Nancy Nelson and Russ (Kristy) Hancock; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Beverly (Dan) Wilcox, Jim (Bonnie) Jarvis, Dick (Mary) Jarvis, Laurie Jarvis, Cindy (Dave) Reilly, and John (Cindy) Jarvis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Leonard and Barbara, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Clarence and Edith Kelly; and a brother-in-law, Joe Jarvis.
Friends are invited to gather with family at Marnocha Funeral Home, 186 E. Pulaski St., Pulaski, on Wednesday, February 12, from 4-7 p.m. Visitation for Marty will continue at Peace Lutheran Church, 1954 County Rd. U, Green Bay, on Thursday from 9-11 a.m. The Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Pastor Stuart Dornfeld officiating. Military honors rendered by the Pulaski Area Veterans will immediately follow at the church. Burial will take place at a later time in Mt. Morris Holden Lutheran Cemetery in Wautoma.
The Funeral Service will be livestreamed and can be found on the Parish Facebook or YouTube page – Peace Lutheran Church – Green Bay.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be given to the Peace Lutheran Endowment Fund or the Green Bay Oncology Group; two causes that were important to Marty.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Unity Hospice Team, the 9 th floor oncology staffs at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay and Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. They would also encourage you to donate blood if you are able to do so, as Marty was a grateful recipient of so many generous donors who did just that.
