Obituary

It is with heavy heart that her five children announce the passing of our mother,  Mary Ann McVey on November 21, 2023. We are so grateful for the nurturing  spirit she embodied which allowed us all to flourish and find success as  individuals. Her mantra of "Life is Good!" will ring in our ears and guide us  throughout our lives.

She was born Mary Ann Jaworski on June 6, 1934, to Rose and John Jaworski of  Pulaski, Wisconsin and was one of sixteen Jaworski children. She grew of up on  their family farm and spent her childhood driving tractors, tending horses, and

tending to the farm's various crops. Mary graduated from Pulaski High School in  1953 and after two years working in Peplinski Hardware in Pulaski, traveled to  Great Bend, Kansas to live for a time with older sister Virginia. She worked in the  local Sears and Roebuck until a tall, dark, and handsome lad named Jim McVey  entered her life and swept her off her feet. Theirs was a whirlwind romance and  they married in 1955. Their five children arrived in quick succession starting with  Pamela, then Douglas, Michael, Patrick, and finally Kimberly. Jim's working career  as a heavy equipment salesman took them to Texarkana, Texas and ultimately,  Olathe, Kansas. All the while, Mary harbored an intense desire to attend nursing  school and work caring for people. Her dream was finally realized when the last  of her children was grown and she very proudly graduated from nursing school and worked as an ophthalmology nurse.

Their lives were turned upside down with Jim's first heart attack in 1985 followed  by several more and ultimately a heart transplant. Throughout his ordeal, Mary  performed as the ultimate care-giver seeing to Jim's every need and keeping an air  of calm throughout their well-dispersed family. After living almost 8 years with a  transplanted heart, Jim died on July 18, 1997 surrounded by Mary and all five  children. Jim's final words: "I'm going fishing!" somehow assuaged the intense  grief the family felt and was a wonderful parting gift to all.

Besides her incredibly successful five children, Mary leaves behind seven  grandchildren and six great grandchildren. More importantly, she leaves behind a  true legacy of love and understanding which will serve to guide all of her offspring  and help to fill the void which her passing has created. As we continue to live our  lives, our memories of mom will always include "Life is Good!" as hers certainly  was. She will be interned in Pulaski, Wisconsin, reunited with the family she loved.
