Mary “Mic”
Olson
Jan 5, 1951 — Mar 17, 2025
Surrounded by the tender love of those she held so dear, Mary Kay "Mic" Olson, 74, left peacefully on March 17, 2025, following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. The immediate family left to cherish her memory, her devoted and dedicated husband of 52 years, Alan Olson; beloved sons: David (Sherri) Olson and Greg (Angela) Olson, and adoring grandchildren: Jarret, Taylor, and Abby Jo Olson, all of Pulaski.
Mic was born in Green Bay, on January 5,1951, to John "Jack" and Arlene (Moes) DeGroot, Mill Center. She was a 1969 graduate of Pulaski High School and married Alan, her high school sweetheart, on October 21, 1972. Following their marriage, they resided in Pulaski. Mic was employed at Northern Shoe Factory until starting a day care in her home. Upon their purchase of Olson Oil Co. in 1990 she became both partner and office manager for the business.
Mic loved to shop! Purchases were often gifts generously bestowed on others. She found joy in giving joy. Possessing a talent for baking and decorating cakes, special occasions were always enhanced by her beautiful creations. She was a member of the Council of Catholic Women of Assumption B.V.M. Parish and enjoyed participating in its various activities. Walking, exercising and biking were often part of her daily routine. A special hobby Mic delighted in was tending to her flower gardens and being part of Northern Gardeners Garden Club. Friendships made there were held very dear. One of her favorite quotes was, "If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I could walk through my garden forever." With all the friendship and outpouring of love she has received over the years, there must now be many thoughtful and beautiful "Mic" gardens blooming everywhere.
It must be shared that among all the joys in Mic's life, some of the most precious moments were those spent with grandchildren who affectionately called her Nan. And an exceptional Nan she was! Never passing up an opportunity to attend school and sports functions, she was, while still able, always the patient, enthusiastic, dedicated chauffer who always wore a loving smile while transporting her precious cargo from venture to venture. She will be greatly missed but leaves priceless memories to cherish.
Mic is survived by her mother, Arlene DeGroot; brothers: Jack (Bonnie) DeGroot, Jerry (Carla) DeGroot; sister, Barbara Brocker, and sisters-in-law: Linda (Pat) Winke, Kris (Roger) Greenfield, as well as one niece, four nephews and 10 great nephews and nieces.
Mic was preceded in death by her father, John "Jack" DeGroot: sister, Susie Brandenburg; brothers-in-law: Mort Brocker and Dave Brandenburg, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Orville and Charlotte Olson.
A private family burial will be held in Elm Grove Cemetery, Laney.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to Mic's compassionate homecare givers Jane and Lisa and to Unity Hospice.
