Obituary

Richard Dean Valley, 89, of Pulaski passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, February 26, 2025. Born in Niagara on January 29, 1936, to the late Arnold and Gladys (Barlow) Valley, Richard lived a life rich in love, laughter, and dedication. A 1954 graduate of Niagara High School, Dick was active in sports and served as the valedictorian of his senior class. He attended UW-Madison for four years, served in the U.S. Army in Germany for two years, and then attended UW-Oshkosh where he completed his master's degree.

Richard met the love of his life, Basilia M. Ingrelli, while he was in Oshkosh, and they were married shortly after in her hometown of Milwaukee, on August 11, 1962. Their love and partnership remained strong until her passing in 2019. Richard had a strong devotion as a father, educator, and active community member.

A proud veteran and lifelong sports enthusiast, Richard loved baseball, hunting, and especially brook trout fishing. These hobbies, along with his quick wit and engaging storytelling, brought him immense joy and countless memories shared with family and friends. He was known for his ability to tell captivating stories that reflected his deep insight, often providing a refreshing perspective with humor and charm.

Richard was also a dedicated educator, teaching physics and mathematics at Pulaski High School for 34 years. He retired in 1995, but his influence on students persisted long after the classroom. Richard was known for speaking his mind with thoughtful honesty, saying the things others often wished they could say but would not dare. His unique approach made a positive impact on both his students and his colleagues.

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Basilia, on December 4, 2019; his parents, Gladys and Arnold Valley; his brother, Don; and his in-laws, Alice and Tony Ingrelli. He leaves behind his children, Julie (Paul) Parker, John (Vicki) Valley, and Jerrod (Kim) Valley, as well as his sister-in-law, Mary (Don) Wieckowicz, and his nine grandchildren: Collin, Erin, Noah, Carter, George, Nick, Tony, Kenny, and Arika. Richard was also a great-grandfather to five, Eva, Ella, Arianna, Luna, and Braelyn, who brought him much joy in his later years.

Richard's warm presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, laughter, and wisdom will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his 89 remarkable years.
