Obituary

Robert "Bob" Novitski, age 78, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on April 9, 2025.

Robert was born January 26, 1947, in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Raymond and Genevieve (Zdziarski) Novitski.  Bob graduated from Pulaski High School in 1965 and received his Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from UW Oshkosh in 1969. He met the love of his life, Maxine (Swiecichowski), and they married on September 13, 1969. The couple recently celebrated their 55 th wedding anniversary. After they married, Bob served in the U.S. Army for three years, and spent the majority of his service in Baumholder, Germany, where they welcomed their first child, Paul.  They returned to the United States and Bob furthered his education, receiving his Master's Degree in Social Work, during which time he was also blessed with two daughters, Susan and Sarah.

Bob had a distinguished career in the social services field, which included 30 dedicated years of employment at the Green Bay Correctional Institution, retiring as the Social Services Director.  During many of those years, Bob somehow found additional time to provide clinical services as a marriage and family counselor and had a specialty in domestic violence working at the Family Violence Center.

While Bob had a passion for Social Work and his professional career, he also loved music. At the age of 12, his mom bought him an accordion and he began his musical career. He was a renowned accordion player for over 60 years. This included traveling around the country with the Alvin Styczynski Band, and forming his own band, the Nu Tymes, with his brother, Dick Novitski. He was also a member of the Polka Hi-Lites and ended his musical career playing with Alvin's band.

While all these things were important to Bob, nothing was more important to him than his family. He particularly enjoyed attending and supporting his grandchildren's sporting and club activities. Some of Bob's most memorable times were taking family vacations, especially the annual Shawano Lake Cottage tradition. Bob was very proud of the amazing trip that he and Max planned when they took the entire family to Mexico.

Bob had a special love for golfing, fishing, boating, and bowling. He also loved the Green Bay Packers, the Badgers, driving his Palisade, sipping Manhattans, relaxing in his recliner, and enjoying his daily morning coffee with his buddies at Kwik Trip.

Bob is survived by his wife, Maxine, three children: Paul (Tricia) Novitski, Susan Kelly, Sarah (Patrick) Phillips; six grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as "Grampie": Connor and Hailey Novitski, Nadia and Norah Kelly, and Alexis Novitski (Alex Rueckl), and Sophia Phillips; one great-grandchild, Luna Rueckl.  He is further survived by his sister, Barbara (Alan) Patz; sister-in-law, Gloria Novitski; sisters and brothers-in-law: Corinne and Philip Beaumia, Conrad Swiecichowski, Christine and Kevin Konshak, and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Genevieve Novitski, his brother Dick Novitski, his in-laws, Felix and Verna Swiecichowski.

Friends and family are invited to gather at St. Agnes Parish, 1484 9 th St. Green Bay, WI from 9-11a.m. Tuesday, April 15. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11a.m. with Fr.
