Shirley
Prosek
Feb 27, 1937 — Feb 3, 2026
Shirley Ann Prosek, 88, of Pulaski, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Country Villa Assisted Living in Pulaski. The daughter of Humbert and Esther (Erickson) Landretti, she was born February 27, 1937, in Ironwood, Michigan.
Shirley grew up in Ironwood and graduated from L.L. Wright High School. On February 9, 1963, she married Gerald "Jerry" Prosek. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Pulaski, where they began raising their family.
Shirley devoted her early years to being a full-time homemaker while her children were young. Once they were all in school, she began a career as a car rental agent with Avis Car Rental and National Car Rental—work she enjoyed and excelled at for more than 20 years.
A longtime member of Assumption B.V.M. Church in Pulaski, Shirley generously gave her time to others. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, taught CCD classes, and frequently drove individuals to medical appointments. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader. In her later years, she especially loved fishing with Jerry—or with anyone willing to bait the hook and remove the fish.
Shirley is survived by her children: Gary (Katie) Prosek, Suzy (James) Johanski, Lynne (John) Crubaugh, Brenda (John) Liss, Michael (Debi) Prosek, and Gregory "Butch" Prosek (Navida Matuszak); grandchildren: Elizabeth Crubaugh, Johnny Crubaugh, Dr. Timmy (Stella) Prosek, Danielle (Sarah) Hamill, Colleen Prosek, Paige Prosek, Kailey Prosek, Graci Prosek, Beau Hillier, Anthony Hillier, Emily Hillier, Matt Johanski, and Luke Johanski; and ten great-grandchildren: Graham, McKenzie, Raegan, Aliyah, Everest, Ian, Hannah, Lilly, Charles, and Ava. She is further survived by her sister, Lois (Geno) Kaari; brother-in-law, Bernie Prosek; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Stone; special cousin, Art (Carol) Prosek; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her husband, Jerry, and her parents, Humbert and Esther, Shirley was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Grandelis; a grandson, Neal Prosek; her sister, Dorothy (Frank "Vass") Valentino; brothers-in-law Donald Prosek, James Prosek, and John (Velia) Grandelis.
Friends are invited to gather with the family at Assumption B.V.M. Church, 119 E. Pulaski Street, Pulaski, on Saturday, February 7, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. James Esser, O.F.M., presiding. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
