Obituary

Walter A. Christiansen, 87, Chase, passed away, Friday, December 22, 2023, at Meadow Wood Assisted Living, Seymour. The son of Sigurd and Evelyn (McDermid) Christiansen was born August 20, 1936, in Green Bay.

Wally was a 1955 graduate of Oconto Falls High School. On February 12, 1959, Wally enlisted in the US Army and was honorably discharged on January 3, 1962. On October 5, 1963, he married Marilyn Palubicki at Assumption B.V.M. Church, Pulaski.

Wally started his career as a truck driver working for Foster, Schneider, Glendenning, Advance and retired from Yellow Freight in 1994 after 31 years of driving.

In his earlier years, Wally enjoyed dancing and snowmobiling. He also enjoyed polka and country music, and many trips to Branson, MO. Wally loved spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and camping, especially at Lake Metonga. He cherished the time he spent with his children working in the woods and making maple syrup late in the winter. Wally was a member of PLAV Post #138 and the Knights of Columbus Bishop Bona Council #4439. He loved his family and family get togethers and absolutely adored his grandchildren.

Survivors include his seven children: Patti Spurlock, Suamico, Kathy (Robert) Fischer, Chase, Shelly (Tara) Christiansen, Howard, Mark (Andrea) Christiansen, Chase, Bob (Kathy) Christiansen, Chase, Amy (Rick) Van Lanen, De Pere, and Sara (Keith) Christiansen, Green Bay; 12 grandchildren: Kristen (Nick), Katelyn, Amanda (Brad), Ashley (Andy), Parker, Hunter, Heidi, Levi, Lexi, Madison (Jon), Maleah, and Miya; five great-grandchildren: Rylan, Bradyn, Layla, Lily, and Hope; sister, Margaret Hilbert, Pulaski; brother, Michael (Bobbie) Christiansen, Ashwaubenon; brothers-in-law: Donald (Ruth) Palubicki, Bellevue, Raymond (Grace) Palubicki, Seymour; and many nieces, nephews, friends and other family members.

In addition to his wife, Marilyn, and parents, Sigurd and Evelyn, Wally was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ernest and Nettie Palubicki; a grandson, Josh Fischer; brother, Dennis Christiansen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Vernon Palubicki, Nancy (Bernie) Zawalick, and Larry Hilbert.

Friends are invited to gather with family at Ss. Edward & Isidore Church, 3667 Flintville Rd, Suamico, on Wednesday, December 27, from 9-11 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Fr. Paul Reczek, O.F.M. presiding. Military Honors rendered by Pulaski Area Veterans will follow at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chase.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Wally's name can be made to the Meadow Wood Bus Fund.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Meadow Wood Assisted Living and the Unity Hospice Team for their care and compassion.
